A crowd gathered in the silent and foggy November air around the Cenotaph in Sparwood to remember Canada's fallen soldiers and to give thanks to all the Veterans who have fought for our freedom. Despite the chill in the air members of the community of all ages came to pay their respects and share a moment of silence for those lost and those still fighting.
Bookended by Prayer, the Ceremony began with the playing of the National Anthem and The Last Post followed by a still and thoughtful moment of silence. The Cenotaph, guarded by members of the Elk Valley Cadets, quickly became home to a number of wreaths. Wreaths were lay in the name of the Queen, all levels of government, and in honour of the Canadian Soldiers by local groups and business's. Wreaths were lay in memory by families of fallen soldiers who wished to remember their loved ones. The ceremony ended with the playing of God Save the Queen and the crowd laid their poppies at the base of the Cenotaph, giving the illusion that the wreaths were shedding petals of red.

While those of us attending the ceremony were able to leave and go home after paying our respects, on this day and every day it's important to remember that going home is not a given for all the men and women of the Canadian Military fighting for our freedom and the freedom of the innocent overseas. It is important to remember, to never forget.
On the Eleventh hour, of the Eleventh day, of the Eleventh month, we shall remember.
